Moldova's capital, like many cities in the region, faces challenges with air pollution, the urban heat island effect, and insufficient green space per resident. Green policies aim to expand parks, create ecological corridors, and plant trees on a large scale along boulevards and in neighbourhoods.
The Chișinău Municipal Council has approved programmes in recent years to upgrade existing parks and turn degraded land into recreation areas. Valea Morilor, the Public Garden, and neighbourhood parks are priorities in these plans.

Green urbanism specialists highlight the role of trees in filtering air, lowering temperatures, and creating habitat for birds and pollinating insects. Resident involvement in planting and maintaining green spaces strengthens a sense of belonging to the city.
The medium-term goal is for every capital resident to have access to quality green space within walking distance — an ambitious but necessary target for public health and quality of life.
